One of the accredited election observer missions was the international mission of the European Institute of Democratic Participation (EIDP).

How nice to see you are interested in EIDP and are reading through this testimonial. In December of the year 2012 I joined an EIDP training session in Tirana, Albania. The main focus of the one week training lied on leadership for Youngsters.

From 2 October until 11 October 2012, I have participated in the cultural youth exchange named “Understanding Differences and Appreciating Similarities”. It had taken place in Savigno (Italy), near Bologna. I was there on behalf of the Dutch group, representing EIDP. A couple of days before the exchange, I noticed the call for applicants and imagined that such an experience would be very fruitful. Looking back, I am grateful to have made this last minute decision as the youth exchange definitely inspired me.

From February 28th till March 6th, I participated in a project of the European Institute for Democratic Participation (EIDP) in St. Petersburg, Russia. This project, named ‘Volunteering: tools and skills for social inclusion’, elaborated on volunteering as a tool to address social exclusion and employability problems faced by young people in Europe. It was combined with an election observation mission (EOM) at the Russian Presidential Election on the 4th of March.

From November 28th till December 5th, I had the honour to participate on a project in Moscow of the European Institute for Democratic Participation (EIDP) that was organised by Sabine Dankbaar en Pieter-Jan Baas. Last October I joined an Election Observation Mission (EOM) to Georgia which was organized by the Danish EIDP partner organization SILBA. Thinking back on the mission, which by now has taken place a couple of months ago, I can say that it has been very valuable, both for the local population and the participants.

Attending a course on democracy in a country that doesn’t fully ensure democratic practices, but where the next elections can prove different. That sounded interesting to us – two Dutchies, one a student of International Relations, the other already graduated.

17-23 june 2012 - Athens, Greece. A seminar on religion and culture and their relation in the EUROMED area and the Dutch were invited too. Lucky me. This seminar offered a unique chance to discuss the question of “our religion”. What does it mean to you? How does this influence your society? Your view on life? What are the stereotypes that we have and why are they stereotypical? What makes them stereotypical? What ís stereotypical?

On the 20th of February 2011 I went to Caravaca de la Cruz, Spain, to do an international training course on human rights education. With twenty participants from all over Europe, e.g. Denmark, Spain, Greece, Armenia, Moldova etc. we debated and worked on human rights education.

“10th of December 2011: Finally the journey could start”, Anne remembers excitedly: ahead of us was one week to be spent in Kobuleti, Georgia, a small town on the Black Sea. Five Dutch representatives were sent by the EIDP to participate in the project on Connecting Generations via Volunteering together with more than 30 participants coming from eight different countries (Sweden, Spain, Turkey, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, Latvia, The Netherlands).
